Girls of the SEC

Most sports websites have at some point ranked the SEC schools in terms of hot girls, well now it is my turn.  I feel that my list will be much more precise due in a large part to the 8 years of research I have poured into this article.  My five years at UGA, followed up by three in Atlanta, and now 6 months in Nashville at Vanderbilt puts me in a unique position to really give an accurate portrayal.

Zas Brick Oven Pizza

In case the name isn't obvious enough, Zas a pizzas place. However, it is one of those trendy pizza places that likes to seem more important than it is. Despite this, it does have really good food and a decent selection of various pasta dishes. It is a good place to go eat or grab a drink at the bar. The lines are usually long so if you want to go here, you may want to call ahead and get a reservation. For more information, visit Zas

This is a Daiquiri Bar located in Five Points. While that, in and of itself, isn't all that exciting, they do serve grain alcohol which can make almost any situation bearable. This bar is good for warmer days when you can go sit outside. Plus, you can always deposit the girls here while the dudes go hit the town.

Frat and Sorority bar. Cheap Vodka always and all liquor is cheap on Tuesdays. Definitely worth checking out if you are in town for a weekend.

This is my personal favorite bar in the city. When you walk in, the inside is dark and it gives the appearance of a local dive bar. However, the back porch is awesome. They have a lot of t.v.'s outside and are usually willing to change the channel to accommodate out-of-towners. I highly recommend this place during the warmer months. The crowd is mainly college and young professional. Inside the bar there are a variety of pool tables as well as other various bar games.

The epitome of a frat bar. Frat hard or go home here. This is a good place to go hang out anytime. There are small T.V.’s at each booth so you can watch any game you wish. It is always a college age crowd. This is probably the most popular bar in Columbia with the greeks. For more information, visit: Salty Nut

The Carolina Cup

The Carolina Cup is an annual steeplechase horse racing event, which takes place each year in Camden, South Carolina, and carries a heavy importance in the Southeast. To many, the Carolina Cup means much more than just horse racing. It marks the beginning of spring, and is one of the historic and traditional social events of the South that has been taking place for over seventy years. Today the event has become more about the tailgating, sundresses, and big hats than the actual races for many people.

The University of South Carolina, Columbia, with approximately 27,272 students, is the flagship institution of the University of South Carolina System and offers more than 350 programs of study leading to bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees from fourteen degree-granting colleges and schools. Professional schools on the Columbia campus include engineering, law, medicine, and pharmacy.

    The Campus

The building now known as DeSaussure College followed shortly thereafter, and the remaining The Horseshoeeight buildings were constructed over the next several decades. When completed, all eleven buildings formed a U-shape open to Sumter Street. This modified quadrangle is known as the Horseshoe.

The Horseshoe is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and most of its buildings reflect the federal style of architecture in vogue in the early days of the nation. Among them is the Caroliniana Library, which was designed by Robert Mills and is the first freestanding academic library in the United States.

Over the years the eleven original buildings on the Horseshoe survived a fire, an earthquake, and the Civil War, but in 1940 McKissick Museum replaced the original President's House. The President's House would eventually return to the Horseshoe after extensive remodeling of one of its original buildings, which was dedicated as such in 1952.

During the 20th century, the campus began to spread out dramatically from the Horseshoe. Today it includes the student union, 21 residence halls, numerous academic buildings, Longstreet Theatre, the Koger Center for the Arts, the Carolina Coliseum, the Colonial Life Arena, Sarge Frye Field, and various facilities for Olympic sports. (Williams-Brice Stadium is located approximately one mile off campus.)

    USC Greek Village

Recent additions to the campus are the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center, the Greek village, and the Green Quad.

    Athletics

The University offers club, intramural, and varsity sports. Its 19 varsity sports teams compete in the Southeastern Conference  and are known as the Gamecocks. The Gamecocks have won six national team championships: 2002 NCAA championship in women's track & field, 2005 & 2007 National Championship in women's equestrian, and 2005-2007 Hunt Seat National Championships in women's equestrian. Also, the men's and women's track & field teams have produced many NCAA individual champions, world championship medalists, and Olympic medalists.

The men's baseball and basketball teams have also produced Olympic medalists. Other significant accomplishments include: 2005 NCAA runner-up in women's track & field; NCAA runner-up three times in baseball (2002, 1977, 1975); 1993 NCAA runner-up in men's soccer; and 2005 & 2006 NIT championships in men's basketball. See grid at the main article for other championships.

Vanderbilt’s Rites of Spring concert, or “Rites” as VU students like to call it, is an annual concert series hosted on campus to celebrate…you guessed it…the start of spring.

It is hosted on Alumni Lawn which also plays host to Vanderbilt Graduation and other large events. It is the perfect area because it is in the center of campus and surrounded by picturesque trees. In the past, Rites has hosted big name bands creating an excuse for students to have a 3-day party instead of studying for finals.

It draws a huge crowd
