Talladega Days and Nights

It’s the most remote spot of all of the NASCAR venues. The wildest two weekends of the nearly 10 month NASCAR season can be summed up in one word. “Dega!” It has often been compared to Mardigras, only instead of New Orleans, it takes place on thousands of uninhabited acres in central Alabama. No bull, you should bring some Mardi-gras style beads. It may not be the best scenery in the world, but you will see more than you could ever want. This is one to leave the women and children you love, and also the faint of heart at home.

Girls of the SEC

Most sports websites have at some point ranked the SEC schools in terms of hot girls, well now it is my turn.  I feel that my list will be much more precise due in a large part to the 8 years of research I have poured into this article.  My five years at UGA, followed up by three in Atlanta, and now 6 months in Nashville at Vanderbilt puts me in a unique position to really give an accurate portrayal.

  • Overview

Ole Miss is located in Oxford, MS. With its scenic town square, acclaimed restaurants, unique boutiques, oak-shaded neighborhoods, and friendly people, Oxford is the model Southern town. Named for its famous cousin Oxford, England, in hopes of attracting a university, the town attracted in 1848 the University of Mississippi, which dominates life here today.

    Culture

    Square Books
It also served as the inspiration for Nobel Prize winner William Faulkner's fictional Jefferson (Lafayette County being Yoknapatawpha), the locale of many of his novels. Oxonians and University members like to describe the town with the motto "We may not win every game, but we ain't never lost a party." Locals also, "partially" jokingly, refer to the Square as the "Center of the Universe." Many residents see Oxford as a small town New Orleans, calling it the "Little Easy." It is widely known throughout the South for its Southern charm, Old South feel, party atmosphere, and its beautiful women, which even Hugh Hefner called the finest in the world. Oxford is also considered a literary center with many writers calling it home. Also being home to the Ole Miss School of Law and a federal courthouse, it is often said that everyone in Oxford is a "lawyer, writer, or both." As if to prove this point, famous author John Grisham still owns a house in Oxford and visits frequently.

    Greek Life

The tradition of Greek life on the Oxford campus is a deep-seated one. In fact, the first fraternity founded in the South was the W.W.W. (or Rainbow Society), founded at Ole Miss in 1848, which went on to charter other chapters across the South. The fraternity merged with Delta Tau Delta in 1886. Delta Gamma national sorority was founded in 1872 at the Lewis School for Girls in nearby Oxford. Today, sorority chapters are very large, with many boasting of around 250 active members. Recruitment is fiercely competitive and potential sorority members are encouraged to secure personal recommendations from Ole Miss sorority alumnae in order to increase the chances of receiving an invitation to join one of the 9 NPC sororities on campus. content via wiki
