Dave Matthews Band at Vanderbilt Stadium

Pretty much every college student in the South East has grown up listening to Dave and if they were lucky they have probably seen a few shows. Dave used to come to Nashville every year to play at Starwood Amphitheater, but it closed down a few years ago. That was the biggest venue near Music City so it is great that Vanderbilt Stadium has stepped up to fill its' shoes.

Skiing Roadtrip in Indiana

I have a proposed idea for a ski trip up to Paoli, IN for a weekend.  It would include leaving Friday after class for the 3 hr 30 min drive up there (from Nashville) doing the midnight ski 8pm-3am on Fri, skiing Sat. and staying both nights in a cabin located on the "slopes".

Vanderbilt Rites of Spring

Vanderbilt’s Rites of Spring concert, or “Rites” as VU students like to call it, is an annual concert series hosted on campus to celebrate…you guessed it…the start of spring.

It is hosted on Alumni Lawn which also plays host to Vanderbilt Graduation and other large events. It is the perfect area because it is in the center of campus and surrounded by picturesque trees. In the past, Rites has hosted big name bands creating an excuse for students to have a 3-day party instead of studying for finals.

It draws a huge crowd

Cycling in Nashville, Tennessee

OVERVIEW Nashville is relatively user-friendly for cyclists.  Getting around town, the number of streets with bike lanes is growing and growing.  Popular route locations vary from Shelby Bottoms near downtown Nashville to quaint, country roads from Spring Hill to Franklin.  Since there is so little traffic congestion (relatively speaking), it is easy to get to numerous rides in a very short time. Jack and Back: Cycling Event

Cycling from Nashville, Tennessee to the Jack Daniel’s Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee

EVENT OVERVIEW

Every year a group of cyclists ride their bikes from a school just outside of Nashville, TN to the Jack Daniel’s Distillery in Lynchburg, TN.

Routes: There are two options: (1) approximately 55 miles and (2) approximately 75 miles.  The routes are clearly delineated and everyone ends the ride at the same location.

Nashville Roller Derby

If you are going to be in Nashville on the third Thursday of any month, you need to put the roller girls on your calendar.  You will not believe your eyes when you see a girl in tight spandex shorts go flying into the crowd after being clothes-lined by one of the other teams enforcers.  The Music City Roller Girls attract an eclectic crowd, but the evenings are always rowdy.  The beers are flowing, and so are the black eyes and bruised butts.

Nashville Overview

Nashville is a city in Davidson County and the capital of the American state of Tennessee. It is sometimes called the "Country Music Capital of the World" or more often "Music City, USA"; however, in recent years, Nashville has done much to escape its country music image and become a regional center of culture and commerce. In fact, Dell, Nissan, and Saturn have all moved some operations to or near the city. The music is various; major rap artists and rock bands (Young Buck, Haystak, Kings of Leon, Paramore, and Ben Folds) claim Nashville as their hometown.

Tennessee Titans Game

If the Titans are doing well,  then tickets are tough to come by. Check eBay and Stub Hub, but if you still can’t find one in your price range don’t be afraid to try to scalp one. If you walk across the James Robertson Pkwy Bridge you will find the scalpers. There are tons of tailgates all around the stadium which is known as LP Field. Even if you're not prepared, you can try your luck with some southern hospitality and ask for some food.

Nashville Predators Game

A great way to spend a night in Nashville, either hit up the box office or scalp tickets outside the Sommet Center. The Preds games are awesome and they do a great job of keeping the crowd entertained the whole time.

Go out on Broadway

If you have always heard of the Honky talk and the Nashville country music scene then going out on Broadway is a must. You should poke your head in the famous touristy places like Tootsies and then make your way to the more fun bars like The Stage, Big Bang, and Paradise Park.

Go to a Concert

After all this is music city. There are tons of concert venues with the most famous being the Ryman. There is live music somewhere every single night and just because you haven’t heard of the band you shouldn’t be wary of going. Nashville is home to many up and coming artists that are excellent. Check out Now Playing Nashville for the latest shows.

  • OVERVIEW

Nashville is relatively user-friendly for cyclists.

    OUTFITTERS

  • I have a proposed idea for a ski trip up to Paoli, IN for a weekend.  It would include leaving Friday after class for the 3 hr 30 min drive up there (from Nashville) doing the midnight ski 8pm-3am on Fri, skiing Sat. and staying both nights in a cabin located on the "slopes".
