Hostel Hopping

Experience the hostels here in the United States and add some spice to your next road trip!

A Plethora of Options

Atlanta is a major city, so there are literally hundreds of hotel options.  Most hotel options will be in Midtown or Buckhead, so if you are planning on hanging out in Virginia Highlands, I suggest staying in Midtown.

Swim With The Gentle Giants

After reading the article in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, I knew that “Journey with the Gentle Giants” was something I had to do.  The gentle giants are the Whale Sharks in the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta.

Upscale Bowling

Looking for a night club where you can also bowl?  Look no further than the Ten Pin Alley in Atlantic Station.  Ten Pin is way better than your normal bowling alley because it caters directly to young people who are looking for a more active club scene.  So make a reservation and come impress the ladies with your splits, 7-10 splits that is!

The Sweetwater Brewery

Perhaps Atlanta’s most well known brewer, Sweetwater is home to the famous “Sweetwater 420”.  Brewery tours and happy hour take place every Wednesday – Friday at 5:30.  It is a great way to start off a night in Atlanta, as the beer and crowd is second to none!  http://www.sweetwaterbrew.com/

Georgia Aquarium

The aquarium is relatively new, yet already one of the biggest destinations in the city.  In terms of size, it is one of the biggest aquariums in the world!  It is located in the heart of rejuvenated downtown Atlanta, right around the corner from Phillips Arena and Centennial Olympic Park.  You might think an aquarium trip is for thirteen year olds, but I can say from experience that I had a great time when I went; and I even suggest it as a great date place!  One thing about it though, it is best to get on the website and purchase tickets online, because they let people en

Go to a Braves Game

One of the best things to do on a spring day in Atlanta is to head down to Turner Field (The Ted) and watch the Atlanta Braves in action.  The key to heading down to the Ted is planning, especially for a weeknight game, as it will more than likely conflict with rush hour traffic.  Most evening games take place at 7:05pm, so my advice is to try and arrive by 6:15pm to give you plenty of time to get there.  Sadly, MARTA doesn’t have a direct line to The Ted, but rather has a bus line that takes you from the actual train stop to the stadium.

Shepherd Center Derby Day

An Atlanta tradition since 1981, Derby Day is considered a highlight of Atlanta's spring social calendar, attracting thousands of people each year, as well as hundreds of sponsors.  The event is held on the first Saturday in May to coincide with the Kentucky Derby, and is organized by the Shepherd Center's Junior Committee.  All proceeds generated from the event go to support Shepherd Center's Therapeutic Recreation Program.

The Dirty South

The Empire of the South, The A, ATL, etc.  the nicknames for Atlanta run about as long as the lines of traffic on I-285.  Atlanta is a great place to visit and live in, as the entertainment options are amazing.  Atlanta is home to four major professional sports franchises, so if sports are your fancy we have what you are looking for.

Taco Mac

1006 N. Highland Ave.
Atlanta, GA
United States
33° 46' 55.0452" N, 84° 21' 16.6608" W

A local Atlanta chain, but the most popular Taco Mac's is in the Highlands.  They are open late night and conveniently located between some of the best bars in the Highlands.  Don't let the name fool you, as you can get anything from tacos to burgers to chicken dishes.  Also open late on the weekends for late night meals.

Tin Lizzy's

3639 Piedmont Rd NE
Atlanta, GA
United States
33° 51' 13.9572" N, 84° 22' 55.7256" W

Tin Lizzy's has the best Mexican Food in Atlanta hands down.  They make amazing margaritas, and the joint is always filled with some of the prettiest girls in Atlanta.  If you happen to be in town on a Tuesday night, head over to Lizzy's for 80's trivia, but get there early, as it is slammed.

Fellini's

2809 Peachtree Rd NE
Atlanta, GA
United States
33° 49' 53.6268" N, 84° 23' 5.7156" W

These little casual Italian cafes are all over Atlanta.  Fellini's is a great place to have a slice of pizza and a pitcher of beer during the afternoon.  They are also open for late night, so if Waffle House is too crowded, head over to Fellini's.

Atkins Park

Atkins Park
794 N Highland Ave
Atlanta, GA
United States
33° 46' 34.086" N, 84° 21' 10.3068" W

I personally love this place, as it reminds me of a big city bar nestled in a small corner of Atlanta.  Atkins has great music and lighting for a night of mingling with some of Atlanta's hottest singles.

Dark Horse

Dark Horse
816 North Highland Ave
Atlanta, GA
United States
33° 46' 36.5808" N, 84° 21' 9.9468" W

Dark Horse is a restaurant that turns into a bar at night; it is here where the crowd begins to differ from that you will find in the popular Buckhead bars.  It can be a little quirky, but all in all, a good time.

Neighbors

Neighbors
752-C North Highland Ave
Atlanta, GA
United States
33° 46' 30.054" N, 84° 21' 10.386" W

Neighbors shares a wall with Hand in Hand, so it usually receives spill over from there.  The crowd makeup is similar, but it is significantly smaller, and most of the seating is outside.

Hand in Hand

Hand in Hand
752 N Highland Ave NE
Atlanta, GA
United States
33° 46' 30.054" N, 84° 21' 10.386" W

A real cool Irish pub, with a great patio.  This is probably the most popular spot in the Highland.  It is very similar to Churchill's in Buckhead.  This place gets really crowded, so if you don't like the crowd, head next door to Neighbors.  If you like going to Five Paces and Pool Hall in Buckhead, then you will like Hand in Hand.

*****************Virginia Highlands*****************

The Virginia Highland area is a great change of pace from the Buckhead scene.  Less dancing and much more chill is what you will find in this area.  Also, this area is very "hip", so you will find more eclectic collection of patrons.

Churchill's

Churchill's
3223 Cains Hill Place NW
Atlanta, GA
United States
33° 50' 33.9036" N, 84° 22' 49.9548" W

Churchill's and Stout's (formerly McDuff's) are very similar in that they are in the mold of the traditional Irish pub.  Both of these places are a little smaller than both Pool Hall and Five Paces, so keep that in mind.  Neither place has live music, but the energy level remains high with a great selection of music on the jukebox.

Five Paces

Five Paces
41 Irby Avenue NW
Atlanta, GA
United States
33° 50' 29.7456" N, 84° 22' 48.918" W

Five Paces is probably the most popular bar in all of Buckhead.  Get there early, or you will be waiting in line to get in, and have some trouble getting drinks.  Five Paces has two sides, one of which has a stage for small bands to play some good live music, usually every Friday and Saturday night.  The other side is a bit lower key, but still has great energy just the same.  There is a nice sized back patio that is very popular when the weather is nice.  Checkout: Five Paces

Pool Hall

Pool Hall
30 Irby Ave NW
Atlanta, GA
United States
33° 50' 27.6144" N, 84° 22' 49.2348" W

Pool Hall is a great dive bar atmosphere where there is no shortage of PBR tall boys floating around.  They have 5 pool tables that are available for use until later in the evening when they cover them with table tops to allow more space for people to sit and hangout.  There is no live music at Pool Hall, so it is a better place to hang out and talk it up with all the young ladies that frequent Pool Hall.

*****************Buckhead*****************

Buckhead is really the first thing people think regarding going out in Atlanta.  Buckhead is crawling with young college graduates in their early to mid-20's, so there is no shortage of young people.  The most popular area for those used to SEC town type bars would be off Roswell Road and East Andrews.  Here you will find 4 of the most popular bars in all of Atlanta:  Pool Hall, Five Paces, Churchill's, and McDuff's.

Two Areas: Buckhead and Virginia Highland

When going out in Atlanta, there are really two main areas, and it is very difficult to do both in the same night, as cabs can get expensive going from one spot to the other.  The two areas I am talking about are Buckhead and Virginia Highland.  Both have a ton of night spots that cater to all young people, yet each scene is different in its own way.

Atlanta Steeplechase

The Atlanta Steeplechase should definitely be a part of your spring social calendar. In its 45th year, the annual event attracts thousands of good looking dressed in their best fratty attire. Held in Kingston Downs, Georgia, a short 45 minute drive from Atlanta, Steeplechase is an all day event of horseracing, tailgating, live music and fun. As Georgia's biggest single horse-racing event, Steeplechase 2010 will benefit the Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation of Atlanta and the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine.

The Best Way To Go

The Coca-Cola Factory

Iraq invades Kuwait, starting the Gulf War. NC-17 replaces the X-rating in cinema. Bette Midler deafens all with her record “Wind Beneath My Wings.” Dr. Jack Kevorkian defies the Hippocratic oath for the first time. Roseanne Bar grabs her crotch, spits on the field, and wails out the National Anthem at a San Diego Padres game. That’s right, it’s 1990 and you’ve probably already spotted the missing event from this list: Atlanta gives birth to the carbonation loaded Coca-Cola Factory. Ya, It's Still Cool

In terms of nightlife, there are a number of different areas, which all have distinctly different atmospheres.  Buckhead is the traditional local of choice, and there are plenty of options ranging from Irish pubs to dance clubs.  Midtown is a bit more trendy, so if you are looking for a New Yorkesque evening, then you should head in that direction.  Virginia Highlands is the most chill of the three, and caters more to the Buckhead crowd if anything.  But Atlanta has even more than these three areas for good times, as Vinings, East Atlanta, Decatur, and Brookhaven all have a little something for a night out.

Atlanta is always rated as one of the best cities for singles, so come for a weekend or a lifetime and you won't be disappointed in this great city, I guarantee it.
