Peabody Hotel

The oldest and most famous hotel in Memphis, this might not perfectly fit the student budget, but would be a solid place to take a formal date or a special weekend get a way.  Even if you decide not to stay in the Peabody, stopping by and cruising the lobby is a must as you never know what famous faces you might see.
