Obviously the best place to stay when visiting UF is with a friend on a couch or even a floor. The only time I have been there, six friends and I, spent two nights sleeping directly on a hard wood floor, but the price was right.
If you do need a hotel the closer to campus, the better. There is a variety of standard hotels that all will meet all your basic needs so it just becomes a competition on price.
