First Night - Raleigh, NC
Is it me, or do you feel pressured to have this epic and legendary New Year's Eve? You would think there are a million things to do on New Years, but if you're in a stump, try Raleigh's First Night, located right in the heart of Raleigh - Downtown. First Night is an annual ALL-day festival to celebrate the new year induced with live music, dance, theatre, fireworks and the traditional giant Acorn Drop.
The Acorn Drop is one the main events of First Night. The Raleigh Acorn is lowered to ring in the new year during the countdown to
midnight. Although the Acorn Drop has become synonymous with First Night Raleigh, it is not the only thing to look forward to. The all-day admission pass gives you access to performances in 28 indoor and outdoor venues throughout downtown Raleigh (find map here), therefore it is a weather-proof way to celebrate the new year. There are also activities for children including crafts, performances and interactive activities. Told you there was something for everyone.
First Night has become one of the largest New Year's Eve celebrations in Eastern North Carolina regularly bringing in over 40,000 annually. Raleigh isn't the only city to ring in the new year with First Night. Over 75 other cities have adapted their own version of First Night to celebrate their community and the arts.
Tickets for the event can be bought online or at several Raleigh locations including Harris Teeter Stores, Marbles Kids Museum, North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh City Museum and more. Tickets will be available for purchase onsite, however, pieces will be a little more expensive.
