Urbanna Oyster Festival
Oyster Festival – AKA- A great excuse to drink mid-day two days in a row
Here is the poster from a few years ago.
From About.com: The Urbanna Oyster Festival – Designated by the
General Assembly of Virginia as the official Oyster Festival of the
Commonwealth, the annual Urbanna Oyster Festival attracts oyster lovers
from near and far to the tidewater town of Urbanna. One of the oldest
towns in America, Urbanna is located along the Rappahannock River about
60 miles southeast of Richmond. Besides having plenty of delectable
oysters (raw, roasted, fried, smoked, steamed, in fritters or in a
stew), the Urbanna Oyster Festival features over 125 arts and craft
booths, offering many handmade items.
On Saturday, festival-goers may enjoy a traditional Fireman’s Parade of
over 80 engines, marching bands and community floats. For visitors who
have not discovered the wonders of the oyster, there are ample other
food options including clams, crabs, shrimp, hamburgers, hot dogs,
roast beef and more.
