Road Trip to Orange Beach

Orange Beach

If you can look beyond bama bangs and being surrounded by University of Alabama frat guys, then you will have a blast in Orange Beach.  Orange Beach is home to one of the best bars on the coast, some very hot women, and always proves to be a wild time.  It is a great option if you are looking to avoid the crowds and traffic of Destin, but still want to party and meet young people.

Bars

The Flora-Bama

Many people will tell you that this is the greatest bar in the South East.  After Katrina unloaded hbar by falsecognateundreds of tons of sand and water in the old bar, the guys at the Flora-Bama built it back stronger and even better.  At any point during the weekend, there will be a minimum of three southern rock bands playing and hundreds of people dancing and taking back shots.  If you can arrange it, rent a boat or find a friend with one so you can drive right up and park on the beach.  Stumbling from the bar and slowly cruising home by water is the only way to travel in style in Orange Beach.

The Keg

The Keg is the late night bar that many of the locals will hit after they leave the Flora-Bama.  It also has a great southern rock band playing into the wee hours of the morning, and will provide you a solid option to really guarantee that hangover is in full force in the morning.

Things to Do

If you are tired on hanging on the white sand of the gulf, then the fishing is great in this area.  You can fish the back waters off Josephine Island for speckled trout or red fish, or you can head out into the gulf to chase down tuna, mahi mahi, or the occasional marlin.  Sportsman’s Marina can offer some good advice and point you toward a sea-worthy captain or fishing boat.

Where to Stay

Just like any beach town, the best option here is to shop around and price some condos or houses.  There are a few comparable hotels and motels, but do yourself a favor and do the work to find a cheap place on the water.
