National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC
Every year, one of the most fascinating celebrations of history happens in Washington, DC where the National Cherry Blossom Festival is held. The festival celebrates the gift of cherry blossom trees and the friendship between the United States and Japan. Millions of visitors come from around the nation and the world to take pictures and experience the beautifully unique cherry blossom trees at the prime blooming time.
Other than being able to walk around nation’s capital snapping photos of the beautiful trees and their flowers, the festival includes art exhibits, cultural performances, kimono fashion shows, dance, singing, martial arts, rugby union tournament, and a bike tour of the Tidal Basin. The five-week festival continues to grow every year with new events added to expand the experience for visitors. A mere walk around the Tidal Basin and visiting historical sites such as the Jefferson Memorial is almost all the experience you need, however, what you don’t want to miss is the Parade where marching bands, celebrities, and icons come together for a star-studded show.
Signature festival evens include Family Day and the Opening Ceremony, the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade and the Southwest Waterfront Fireworks Festival. Throughout the festival there are over 150 daily cultural performances by local, national and international entertainers, icons and sports competitions. Most of the festival events are free and open to the public
