MusicFest ‘N Sugar Grove remains an intimate, family-friendly event in a beautiful mountain setting with endless amount of great food and craft vendors and musicians known locally and regionally. Started in 1997 initially named as “Doc Watson Appreciate Day,” MusicFest honors and celebrates the life and music of Grammy Award winner Doc Watson and all of the musicians he has inspired. Since the first MusicFest festival, Doc Watson has performed along with Grammy Award winner the Carolina Chocolate Drops. During the festival there are also musician work shops and access to the Doc and Merle Watson Folk Art Museum located inside the Old Cove Creek School.

For musicians who would like to join in on the fun, MusicFest ‘N Sugar Grove bring you the Pickin’ Parlor where musicians of all types and ages can join together and jam out!

Going Green
Not only does MusicFest ‘N Sugar Grove focus on the music, food and good times, they try to do it in a green way. In addition to the main stage, MusicFest created the Solar Stage in 1997 to promote sustainability practices within the community. On this solar-powered stage, local, talented musicians make their appearance. The Solar Stage is powered by “Daisy,” which is a miniature home that draws solar and wind power. It was provided by the Department of Technology and Environmental Design at Appalachian State University.

Cove Creek Preservation and Development

All benefits raised from MusicFest ‘N Sugar Grove help fund Cove Creek Preservation and Development‘s (CCP&D) mission to preserve and maintain the Cove Creek community, located in Watauga County. All proceeds support efforts to keep the Historic Cove Creek School and surrounding sites maintained.
