This event has showcased many musical talents including Sam Bush, Toubab Krewe, Acoustic Syndicate, Railroad Earth, Keller Williams, The Steep Canyon Rangers and many mothers. From the past festivals, they have raised over $11,000 to local nonprofits. The event includes three stages and two days filled with music, food and fun. Camping is available for those who are interested.

The tickets for the event are rain or shine and children 13 and under receive free admission. Tickets can either be purchased in advanced at physical ticket locations in Boone at Green Mother Goods, Footsloggers, ASU Bookstore or Appalachian Music, or tickets may be purchased at the box office at the day of the event. The festival will be held at The Grandfather Campgrounds in Foscoe, NC, about 10 miles from Downtown Boone and Appalachian State University. Shuttles to and from will be provided for those who park in the ASU campus stadium lot along with those who park in the Boone Mall. The Ascent Series
Along with the official MOTM event, they have a FREE event for their fans dubbed the Annual Ascent Series. On the Thursday night before the festival, regional bands will play throughout several bars and restaurants in Downtown Boone at King Street including locations such as Our Daily Bread, Char, Black Cat and Galileos. The audience will then vote on their favorite and that band will win a slot on the main stage for the Music on the Mountaintop event the upcoming year.
