Annual Music Festival – Moogfest, Asheville, N.C.
Moogfest is for you.
Moogfest is one of the year’s most eclectic, urban and unusual electronic music festivals that honors the musical inventions and vision of Robert Moog. Moogfest is a three-day music festival with multiple venus and a variety of artists that perform Halloween weekend in Asheville, N.C., the city that Robert Moog called home for 30 years. Along with music performances, Moogfest provides opportunities for the audience to engage with the artist performing through panel discussions, question and answer sessions and workshops. There are visual art exhibitions, interactive experiences, installations and film screenings throughout the weekend.
A Little Background
Moogfest was inspired by the original music festival that was hosted in New York City from 2004-2008 when Robert Moog created Moog Music. The first Moogfest was held at the B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in Times Square which was a one-night, one-time sold out event! After Bob Moog passed away from brain cancer, Charles Calini, a New York-based music and concert promoter, continued to cultivate Moogfest as a tribute to Bob.
In 2010, Moog Music partnered with AC Entertainment, who co-produced Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, which then moved Moogfest from New York City to Asheville. The first Moogfest in Asheville in 2010 drew 7,000-7,500 people a day! Artists such as Massive Attack, MGMT, Hot Chip, Disco Biscuits, Sleigh Bells, Caribou, Jon Hopkins and more. The 2011 line-up included popular artists such as Passion Pit, The Flaming Lips, Moby, and so much more.
Who is Robert Moog?
Robert “Bob” Moog is the inventor of the Moog Synthesizer and the founding father of electronic music. There’s no wonder there has been a music festival created to honor his creativity and inventiveness.
As Moogfest goers would say, “Get ready for a musical voyage into the fourth dimension!”
