Wachovia Championship (Quail Hollow Championship)

It is hard to find an event as Fratty as the Quail Hollow Championship in Charlotte, NC.

During the first weekend of May the town turns their attention to golf. The tournament is played at Quail Hollow Country Club which is ridiculously nice. The course is immaculate and is lined with mega-mansions.

There are tons of college students that attend to watch the golf and drink during the day. If you have a connection then try to get into a corporate tent and score some free booze, but even if you can’t it is still a blast. The main area where people hang out is on the 17th hole. From this location you can watch the players play the 14th, hit their tee shots over the water on the 15th, and make a nerve wracking drive on the 18th.

Everyone is dressed like they just stepped out of a J Crew or Polo magazine and are there to live up the event. The golf is excellent, drawing most of the top players in the world. Last year, new comer Anthony Kim won with Tiger winning house on #7 by mchartthe year before that.

Getting a ticket is extremely easy!

They have a deal that is called the “Mulligan Ticket” meaning that when people leave they put their ticket in a box for it to be resold to people wanting to come. You can simply walk up to the gate and buy at ticket for $10 which is donated to Teach for America. Assuming you went out the night before and aren’t at the gate at 6:00 A.M. then there will be plenty of tickets available for purchase when you get there. One think to keep in mind is that phones are not allowed, so you will have to make your plans to meet-up before arriving and leave your Crackberry in the car.

Charlotte has amazing nightlife that you can read more about on the Charlotte “Travel Destinations” page.

If you decide that you want some good tickets here is a link for StubHub
