The Players Championship – Jacksonville, Florida

Attending the The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass is truly an experience. Outside of the four majors (Masters, U.S. Open, British Open, and The PGA Championship) this is the most prominent and intense PGA tour event of the year. Almost all of the worlds best players will play and Tiger Woods should be present if he stays out of trouble.

The Players Championship is best known for what may be the single most recognizable par 3 in professional golf, known to golf fans worldwide as “the Island Green” and what has become TPC Sawgrass’ signature hole. The final three holes are considered one of the toughest finishes in golf. They are also sometimes referred to as ‘running the gauntlet’. This provides a great area to spend the day walking around as a spectator.

Hanging Out

There are tons of college students that attend to watch the golf and drink during the day. If you have a connection then try to get into a corporate tent and score some free booze, but even if you can’t it is still a blast. The main area where people hang out is on the 17th hole.

If you come during a practice round then it will be really easy to get tickets and to get close to the ropes. On the other hand if you are anywhere along the gauntlet during the weekend you will need to camp out all day to get a good spot. If you need a retreat from the crowd head towards a concession tent or the newly restored clubhouse (if you have a pass) and grab some delicious food.
