Study Abroad in London
London is great place to start your European travels. It is not too European but also not too American. For Americans though, it is definitely the most expensive city to visit in the world. London is a very large and spread out city with very distinct neighborhoods. Still, it is easy to get around the city with its great public transportation system which in Europe is much better than in America. Some obvious things to see are Westminster Abbey where many famous people are buried. It is best to take the tour instead of trying to figure it out on your own.
Another site to see is Big Ben and House of Parliament. A beautiful building nestled on the river in the heart of the city. Across the river you can go see the London Eye. It is a pretty new structure that is an observation wheel. You can get a good view of the city from the top. Also, a must to see is Buckingham Palace. As far as eating goes, there are many places to choose from. The main thing to get in London is fish and chips. There are tons of fish and chips places in London that it will make you go crazy but they are pretty good.
There are also numerous pubs as well. You can literally find one on every corner. A lot of Londoners have their own neighborhood pub and it is cool to see how everyone knows each other in the pubs. Don’t be shy though. They like visitors. The beer over there is amazing and it is part of their culture so drink up! The main center of most of the action is Piccadilly Circus. Over there circus means circle so don’t expect elephants and clowns. It is the Times Square of London. You can find everything there from shopping to food to nightlife. There are a lot of great clubs in this area but prepared to pay an insane cover to get in. I am more of a bar man myself but in London you can’t really go wrong wherever you go.
The most famous club is called the Ministry of Sound. It isn’t in the center of town but it is like going to the most insane rave you have ever been to. The Ice Bar is famous as well but is also expensive to get in and rather cold as well. You can find deals at a lot places but you have to look hard for them.
