Mazatlan is host to over 100,000 students every March who are drawn because of its beauty and crazy nightlife.
Take a daytrip to Stone Island – You can ride a speedboat out there with a group of friends and then spend the day exploring. You can choose from horseback riding, kayaking, snorkeling or just relaxing on the beach. There are many tour operators that run trips and your hotel can set you up with the right one. Many of them have an all-inclusive option that will include your food and drinks.
Climb to the top of a Lighthouse – Just hop in a taxi and for about $5 U.S. ask to be taken to ‘El Faro.’ They will drop you at the end of a dirt road. From there you will have a walk and then about 1100 steps to climb to make it to the top. Bring your camera because the views are not to be missed and it is a gorgeous place to watch the sunset.
Tour a Tequila Factory – For about $50 U.S. you can go see first-person how Tequila is made, but that is not really what you pay for. You also get all-you-can-drink samples of Tequila at the end and a great Mexican lunch.
Shop in the local markets.
See the Acuario Mazatlan aquarium which is cheap to get in and interesting.
Surf in the local waters – You can rent boards or even take a lesson for a cheap price.
